2024-25 Littlehampton Town Vs Sporting Bengal

📢 MATCH REPORT:

Littlehampton Town 3-2 Sporting Bengal

FA Trophy | First Round Qualifying
Sunday 8 September 2024
The Sportsdfield, West Sussex

It was a long trip down to the south coast against Littlehampton Town FC for our first ever FA Trophy match. Unfortunately we were still on the coach in the first minute of the game where Littlehampton forward, Alex Laing, found half a yard and fired into the bottom left corner. He then doubled the lead from a free kick cross that was left by everyone and bounced into the far corner. 2-0 down after 15 minutes, there was a mountain to climb!

Bengal finally woke up when Yassine was first to pounce on a clearance and headed towards Carvell who instinctively on the turn played a beautiful throughball to striker Joe Gregory who outpaced his marker and coolly lobbed the keeper to give Bengal hope! 2-1.

With half time approaching, Littlehampton doubled the lead again into injury time where Rob O’Toole latched on to the cross and found the top corner. 3-1 at the break.

Bengal stepped up in the second half after a poor first half and were rewarded with a brilliant team goal with 10 minutes to go. Keanu won the ball back for Krans who cushioned it for Brandy to find Joe. The striker swivelled on the turn and swept it out wide to the flying right wingback. Tanvir cut it back first time for Tanel who toe poked it towards Brandy to shot into the bottom left corner. Brilliantly worked goal that would set up a tense final few minutes.

Bengal had the opportunities but unfortunately couldn’t take it to a penalty shootout. A tough day in the office after a long trip but there’s not time to dwell as we are back at Mile End Stadium to face the most in-form league team in Basildon Utd on Wednesday who have won every league game so far this season. First game under the lights at the MES this season – promises to be a blockbuster!
